KI-OSHD
Optical Smoke/Fixed Temperature Heat Detector
KI-OSHD Optical/Fixed Temperature Detector houses an optical sensing chamber that detects smoke, as well as a fixed-temperature sensor that detects heat. The detector analyzes data from both sensors to determine when an alarm is initiated. This combines the suitability of optical sensing for slow burning fires with the sensitivity of fixed-temperature detection for fast flaming fires, arriving at a solution that responds reliably to the widest range of fire types. A sophisticated algorithm processes data from both sensors over time so that an alarm is only reported when conditions precisely match the signature of a fire. This eliminates the shortcomings of single-sensor optical and heat detection, and significantly reduces the risk of nuisance alarms.
Overview
The Kidde Intelligent Optica Series KI-OSHD smoke detector
brings advanced optical (photoelectric) sensing technology to a
practical design that increases effi ciency, saves installation time,
cuts costs, and extends life safety and property protection
capabilities. Continuous self-diagnostics ensure reliability
over the long-haul, while environmental compensation helps
reduce maintenance costs.
The KI-OSHD provides an optical smoke sensor and a
rate-of-rise heat sensor with a fi xed temperature setting.
Together these sensors effi ciently detect smoldering fi res,
as well as fast fl aming fires.
Like all Kidde Intelligent Optica Series detectors, the KI-OSHD is
an intelligent device that gathers analog information from multiple
optical sensors, converting this data into digital signals. Utilizing
dual optical wavelengths combined with multiple detection angles,
the KI-OSHD differentiates particles that are not representative
of actual smoke. Particle data is input into digital fi lters which
feed a series of ratios removing signal patterns that are typical of
nuisance sources, thus reducing unwanted alarms. To make an
alarm decision, the detector’s on-board microprocessor measures
and analyzes all optical sensor readings and compares this
information to preprogrammed settings.
